Witeklab has collaborated with Sorigué for the installation of CORROCHIP sensors in charge rupture towers of a brine piping network, from the mines of Cardona and Sallent.
Due to the nature of the high content in chlorides transported by this piping network, reinforced concrete structures showed an advanced corrosion process.
In order to lengthen the life of these structures, Sorigué has done repair and maintenance work on the towers using Witeklab’s CORROCHIP method, installing sensors on each of the towers.
CORROCHIP is an innovative system that uses sensors embedded in the structure, allows detecting when a corrosion process is initiated in concrete-embedded steel structures. The great advantage of this method being remote access to real-time data on the structure state and the corrosion progression with a very high degree of reliability. It eliminates the need for on-site interventions and allows for anticipation of deteriorating situations that compromise the integrity of the structure.
The installation has been made in three towers in several municipalities in the province of Barcelona (El Papiol, Sant Joan Despí and El Prat del Llobregat). The use of Witeklab’s CORROCHIP sensors will allow the lifespan of these structures to be extended, as well as reducing maintenance costs and ensuring their safety.
